I am a jeweler with Premier Designs Jewelry. Once a month, I have a training at my home for ladies that are in my downline. They absolutely love the popcorn I make for them. I really think it is a feature to my training that draws my jewelers to training. Getting people to come to a volunteer training is not easy. Anyway, the popcorn is delicious and its easy to make...and easy to clean afterward. My children enjoy it as well in our home theatre room. It serves many purposes. I am very pleased with this product.

I did a lot of research on these before deciding on this fantastic machine. Trust me, you can look a long time and not find anything close to this value at this price point or even one much, much higher. Highly recommend for that finishing touch on your home theater.
Pros:
- 3 switches for power (1 kettle stirrer, 1 heating lamp/under carriage heating element and 1 for kettle heat). This will add a lot of life to your machine!
- Large 8 ounce kettle pops plenty of corn for a family of 4 or use a smaller portion (or portion pack) for movie night with your spouse.
- EASY assembly and very mobile. Essentially it comes in 4 pieces, the main unit, the cart and a couple of tires. It took longer to get rid of the boxes than to assemble it. We have actually wheeled this out in front of the house so my son can sell popcorn and lemonade, its that mobile.
- Storage cabinet holds a lot of supplies
Cons:
- A bit on the messy side. The side windows need to be wiped down every couple of uses but a paper towel usually does the trick.
- Metal popcorn scoop handle came off after a few weeks, but its easily glued back on.
- Makes my wife want to eat a lot of popcorn. Seriously....
From the time you decide to have popcorn to actually having the popcorn is less than 5 minutes. I recommend the popcorn packs but also look for other coconut oil packs for popcorn machines and "Flavacol" for that true theater taste. Everyone who sees the machine and has the popcorn wants one of there own!

I have been looking for a popcorn machine for quite a while. The lowest price (without a cart) that I could find was over $600. With a cart it can be more than $1100. Then add the shipping $65 - $100. That's why I was amazed to see this item for $349.99 - WITH FREE SHIPPING. This item was delivered in two Huge boxes. Assembly was simple... about 20 minutes. I did not expect to be a top of the line model and was surprised at the quality. The red top is metal, not plastic. The three side walls are glass, not plastic. I has a kernal catcher, some don't. I was also concerned about the wattage of this machine. It has about half the wattage of other machines I was looking at. But after cooking a batch of popcorn I found that this unit cooked the popcorn as fast as units I had rented in the past. I am extremely happy with this machine.

This is the real deal. It's small and will look great on any countertop/bar top. We used Orville Redenbacher popping oil along with their kernels and within 3 minutes, our house was filled with the wonderful scent of movie style popcorn. The steam hits the glass and scent is carried away throughout your house.
It only accepts 1/4 cup of kernels at a time, so it does take a few sessions to really fill up the box...if that is what you are looking for.
The only downside we've noticed is that a lot of kernels come flying out of the kettle. Not sure why but we lose a very good portion of them when we pop.

The popcorn packets and most convenient - but also tasty! The aroma attracts folks from miles around and it's very easy to use. My fingers get burned a bit trying to empty the mix into the kettle - but it works better with practice. I don't let other people TRY even though it looks easy - So the POPCORN is great the POPPER is a bit tricky !

The Maxi-Matic EPM-250, i had found this popcorn popper very easy to use. It comes with measure tools to get the right amount of oil and popcorn. I am on a diet, that allows me to have a snack of 6 cups of popcorn after popping. This makes the right amount (small bag of movie size popcorn). After the unit cool down, just add 6 oz. of water and turn back on for a couple minutes to boil water. Let it cool down again and you can empty the water and wipe it clean. The tray, i wash with soap and water after each use. It was worth the money.

Paragon 1911 Originals 4-Ounce Antique Popper Popcorn Machine Review

Paragon 1911 Originals 4-Ounce Antique Popper Popcorn Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
...I can almost hear somebody exclaim whenever I look at this heavy, well-constructed, state-of-the-art machine. I bought mine from a non-Amazon dot-com store, distinguished with another banner, but it's the same model and color scheme, fire-engine red frame with a deep blue bonnet. The metal bric-a-brac helps hold your full snack cartons on top. It's a simple, classic design that grows on you with each passing day.
The Original 1911 is producedby Paragon, makers of the best theatre-style popcorn machines around. You have to be somewhat of an afficionado to fully appreciate it. These machines are designed to make popcorn quickly and efficiently, the crispest and fluffiest possible, with no toughness or excess unpopped kernels, at the same time providing an attractive display. They are very durable and made to withstand commercial use, justifying their high price.
Being hotter than most home popcorn makers, you must use a fat or oil with a saturated and/or monosaturated structure, such as refined lard, coconut, peanut, or soybean oil (Wesson is a decent brand), so it won't break down under the heat and BURN. A high "smoke point" is not enough. We tried extra-virgin Olive oil, the only remotely suitable thing we had in the apartment. Just ordinary store-brand yellow popcorn. With 1/4 cup oil, the maximum amount (you can use as little as 3 scant tablespoons) there was some smoking after popping, when the oil residue began to burn off. Even so, the popcorn was as promised: light, completely popped, easy on the teeth. Canola oil is highly recommended, as well (must be a glut in the U.S.), but we find it too fishy for our taste.
Our only complaints were a couple areas of scratched paint inside from improper packing; also, some small parts were thrown in loosely and hard to find. The kettle lid was scuffed in the middle. The kettle lever was very stiff and hard to turn for about the first thirty batches, but is gradually getting looser. The 1911 4-oz model doesn't feature a warming deck or "old maid" drawer to catch unpopped kernels as most other Paragon models do. However, you can buy perforated popcorn scoops that help serve the function of the old maids' drawer. Plastic is probably best to prevent scratching the lovely glass case and stainless steel food deck. A set of long-handled metal measuring cups would be handy, too.
Otherwise, the Original 1911 makes the grade. In fact, better than advertised, as it also pops WITHOUT ANY OIL, a wonderful surprise. I've had 2 inexpensive air poppers burn out, and they took FOREVER to fill the bowl; the appliance literally spit the kernels out two or three at time. Dry-popping is only half as slow in this machine. (With oil, the kettle just about ExPLODeS.) I heard you can use up to 6-ounces raw kernels (about 7/8 cup) and not overload the shallow kettle--the popcorn overflows anyway--but can't find this in any product literature. The main hazard is using too much or the wrong type of oil. Though this method, which eliminates the smoke problem, can dirty the kettle with carbonized bits of fluff, an occassional oil batch helps keep it smooth and nonstick.
We suspect popcorn hawkers, who pushed a machine nearly identical to this along the streets at the turn of the 19th century, used no oil originally. Rather, the still-hot kettle was employeD to melt fresh butter, which was then dumped over the bin of popcorn below. There's nothing like lightly toasted, natural popcorn tossed with real butter and just a little salt. Make sure you wipe off the kettle and stirrer thoroughly if you try this, though, as regular unclarified butter, which contains milk solids, will burn when you pop the next batch.
Of course, you must use a special popping oil for genuine movie popcorn. Dyed yellow and usually coupled with a butter-flavored salt like Flavocol, it was probably developed to save time and money, enhance appearance, and avoid unnecessary messes at the show. Concession stand operators traditionally prefer coconut oil (really coconut FAT) for the best flavor. Without some oil or butter, salt and other seasonings won't stick; oil-popping also produces the largest buds, yielding a bigger volume. If the popcorn's too chewy, and you did leave the door slightly ajar as instructed to let the steam escape while making it, try adding salt AFTER popping, rather than during.
As I said, this does pop very quickly. However, if I had the money, I would purchase a Paragon with a bigger-capacity kettle--6, 8, or even 12 ounces--so it's not necessary to keep reloading and cleaning it for a large quantity. For a concession stand, you need a 12-ounce single or double kettle. The 6- to 12-ounce Jukebox is BEAUTIFUL and a popcorn lover's dream. At home, where we tend to eat more, you can expect one 4-ounce batch to satisfy only two to four people; this works out to one kettle ounce per person, maximum.
Professional poppers are especially nice if you have a family or rec room or long snack bar, as even the smallest model takes up considerable space and, 24-inches high, won't fit under most wall cabinets.
I also recommend you purchase the matching cart. It's not only a touch of nostalgia and class, showing off your fine machine, but lends extra storage and sturdy wheels withwhich to move the 50-lb appliance around.

We grew up with my father making popcorn for us in the evening. He has a friend who had gotten a popcorn machine and always talked about it. I started looking at restaurant suppliers in my area and found them to be cost prohibitive. I looked online assuming the same would be true, especially with shipping for such a heavy item. Not the case with this! It arrived quickly, in excellent condition, and for a price my sisters and I could afford to spend on him for Christmas. He loves it and the rest of the family gets to enjoy his gift as well.

Two stars because it's cute and when it works I love the popcorn. Wouldn't buy it again though (bought as a Christmas gift- THANKFULLY I DIDN'T GIVE IT TO ANYONE!). Poorly made. The bottom half of the door cracked and fell off the 3rd time I used it (seemingly for no reason other than heat???). Is constantly jamming as the first reviewer said. In my case it's because the lids get stuck and the pressure of the popping corn makes it stop (can you imagine popping popcorn inside a sealed tin can- you're getting the picture). Makes very little popcorn at a time but it's SMALL so that was to be expected. There is a similar popper sold here with different styling (red & yellow- more of a "carnival" style??) that I also ordered and ended up giving as the gift. It had gotten good reviews. The popping mechanism was the same but the quality of the case was better. I was suprised that they were made by the same company. I haven't heard yet how it worked out for them. This one won't last long but I've gotten addicted to it. I'll replace it with a comercial quality one (I found them when I ordered this one for it about $100 more if I remember right). Absolutely worth the upgrade if you're planning to use this more than once. By the way, the pre-measured pouches of popcorn from Wabash Farms (yum!!!) were suggested by Amazon to go with this popper- big mistake. This is a 2oz popper and they are for 6oz poppers. I had to pry the wedged popcorn out with a screwdriver!

Paragon TP-6 Theater Pop 6-Ounce Popper Popcorn Machine Review

Paragon TP-6 Theater Pop 6-Ounce Popper Popcorn Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this popper in December 2000. After nine years of use I can say this thing is great!
I looked at a lot of machines when I was shopping and I picked this one for a couple of reasons. First, it has both a heating unit below the floor and a heat lamp above. Most small units I looked at only had the heat lamp. Second, this machine has glass walls. The doors are hard plastic, but the walls are glass. I was worried that the smaller machines with plastic walls would scratch easily as I scooped the popped corn. I bought a metal popcorn scoop that's tapered to feed a popcorn box and has holes to allow unpopped kernals to fall through. If I had a plastic walled machine, I'd have to be careful how I used the scoop for fear of scratching the walls. But, as another reviewer pointed out, this thing is built like a tank!
One pre-packaged pack of popcorn makes about as much as two typical microwave bags. But it tastes much better! My wife and I love this popper. I've never regretted my purchase!

Great northern popcorn company - Great Northern Popcorn Red Matinee Movie 8oz Antique Popcorn Machin Review

Great northern popcorn company - Great Northern Popcorn Red Matinee Movie 8oz Antique Popcorn Machin
Average Reviews:

Any true popcorn lover knows the Holy Grail of Popcorn is getting that fresh Movie Theatre taste. Home theatre enthusiasts have created a market for inexpensive "professional" style poppers that can be placed in the living rooom or "theatre room" to add that certain ambience and the taste of movie theatre at home.
Great Northern Popcorn is the supplier of a great many Popcorn supplies and relatively low cost movie theatre style poppers.
There's quite a few bonus features that set this particular popcorn popper from other popcorn poppers at it's price point.
First of all, let me go out and say this is probably the least expensive 8oz kettle you will find. It's price point is right at what Great Northern Popcorn offers for it's 4oz models. I like to consider this the 8oz kettle for the home market.
1. It has a an 8oz kettle which will pop more popcorn per batch than a comparable 4oz machine at nearly the same price.
2. It has a smaller footprint than some of the others which means it can fit in tighter places or smaller counters.
3. It has has a warming element in the floor of the popcorn popper which helps keep the popcorn warm and crunchy. Most other 4 oz machines don't have a heater element in the floor.
4. It is full glass construction. Other units of this price point have a plexi-glass door.
5. It has an Old Maid tray to collect unpopped kernels.
All these features make it worth the investment (The actual popper without the cart costs about 145.00 which is very reasonable.
However I question some of the commercial quality claims.
1. It seems the stirrer is a bit loose in fit which allows kernels to lodge under the stirring bar and cause the stirring bar to jam. This causes an awful noise and I can't imagine it's good for the stirring motor. I definitely recommend pre-heating the oil. This will minimize the time the kernels are in the pot. If you just put the popcorn, salt and oil in at the same time, the stirrer has to move the kernels longer thus increasing the possibility of a jam.
2. It's small foot print makes loading the kettle a bit tricky.
3. I am not sure if this 8oz kettle is the same size as other "8oz" kettles in the market place. It seems a little shallow to me since it seems a number of old maids get spit out during the popping process.
Overall I give this 4 stars. It's clearly not intended for commercial use, and is designed really for the home user. Those users who are looking for true commercial grade poppers should look at the ones made by Paragon. However, expect to pay nearly $260.00 for their entry level 4oz machines and over 500.00 for their 8oz machines. That's for the machine alone.
I am docking a star to the stirring bar jamming I've had so far. Heating the oil definitely helps.
Oh, and By the way, this popcorn tastes best about 1 hour after it's popped. By that time the heater element has dried out the moisture from the popping process and you are left with nice crunchy popcorn.
I highly recommend buying the Great Northern Popcorn 4 oz or 8 oz packs with this machine. If you are a small family the 4oz packs will work just fine. If you like to have some extra popcorn sitting in the popper, or a larger family, go with the 8oz.
You'll never go back to Microwave corn again.

Nostalgia KPM-508 Old-Fashioned Kettle Popcorn Maker Review

Nostalgia KPM-508 Old-Fashioned Kettle Popcorn Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The biggest issue of this popper is that unpopped kernels tend to fly out of the container, like hot air poppers which blow many of the good kernels out. You should monitor it and shake the handle when popping starts to minimize waste. Quality gourmet popcorn like Orville Redenbacher's is a larger kernel and will yield bigger, fluffier popcorn per batch.
Naturally, you will have to wipe out the inside before the first use to get any dust and loose styrofoam out. Then rinse and dry the kettle, plug the kettle in, slip on the mount, and screw in the handle counterclockwise.
Instructions say to run the kettle empty 3-5 mintues just to heat up BEFORE you add 2 teaspsoons of oil and popcorn. The instructions get fuzzy at this point. It says, "... add _ cup of popcorn..." Cup of what? I called and found out just one scoop - equal to 1/4 cup. Don't double it or you risk burning and stuck kernels. It yields 2 quarts which is pretty good. Measuring spoons are provided for oil and popcorn, but no scoop. But the door and opening tray should make popcorn retrieval easy enough.
The sound of the motor spinning is much quieter than hot air poppers which sound like rattling blow dryers. This should let you make more popcorn mid movie with less distraction. This unit is more work for popcorn. However, we live with the trouble because we want theater quality popcorn, right?
As I understand, theater's use coconut oil. I use peanut oil because of the high burn temperature, it will never smoke and hydrogonate. You can make batch, after batch, of delicious popcorn, but sooner or later, you have to turn it off and clean the kettle. Unplug the unit, wait for it to cool, unscrew the handle, unplug the kettle and remove it. Then a nice soak in hot soapy water. Again, done for the love of popcorn.
There is even an overhead light to help you see the popcorn, but this appears to be an ordinary lamp. It is decorative and in no way keeps the popcorn warm. Just like the wheels which are decorative and do not spin.
The unit is fairly large, and takes up under 9 x 12 inches of counter space. Roughly 18.5" tall. Easily, twice the size of a hot air popper. Home theater owners won't mind the space, otherwise, you may need to make room.
It normally comes in the nostalgic classic red, but I have seen green available, and I bought mine in a pleasant black. Certainly, more trouble than normal for popcorn, but the quality is great.
Health conscious people may bally hoo the oil aspect, but that depends on how healthful an oil you use. Healthful fat in your diet, like olive and peanut oils, are better than no fat at all.
In short, if you are a popcorn lover who tires of the over salted bag popcorn, the dry hot air popcorn, or the burned microwave popcorn, this is for you. But, it's a lot more mess. Just remember to clean it regularly to keep it from smoking. Otherwise, start stocking up on Jiffy Pop.
Thanks for your vote!

Paragon TP-4 Theater Pop 4-Ounce Popper Popcorn Machine

I bought this recently for hosting movie nights at my home (with 10-12 guests). I decided to spend a "little" extra for an American made product and couldn't be happier. It's built like a tank, easy to use (remember- the popping kettle is hot!), has a fairly quiet motor when running, and simple to clean.
It is well worth the price difference from imported poppers- for example, the Waring popper that can be seen at major retailers is much smaller and looks like an easy bake oven when comparing materials and construction. The Paragon popper could almost be described as a "saleman sample" size of a commercial machine- which is really is. I ordered it on a Monday (refurbished, factory direct) and received it Wednesday, shipping from Iowa to Ohio!
I'm now experimenting with various oil combinations Canola/corn, etc. for the best taste. The combination packages of oil/popcorn/salt/flavoring taste too much like what you get in theaters!

This 300w popper is working well and will deliver ready to eat popcorn within minutes after it's been warmed up the time it takes you to get your supplies ready to use.
Looks nice and is a fun item, but if your desire is the finished popcorn and not in owning an unusual popper, you can pop more and spend less money at the same time with another machine in my opinion.
Taste of the popped corn can vary depending on the type of corn, oil and salt you use, if you don't like it, try another combination. I buy larger sized concession stand oil and flavored salt, but buy my white popcorn in smaller bags so I can keep it fresher.
I love white popcorn, you might like yellow, but don't forget you can also mix batches to get something in between.
No matter which you like, it must be fresh to have the proper moisture content to pop properly.
Don't blame your popper all the time when it can be the corn thats at fault.
The clear sides plus top and bottom that you see are all ABS plastic, For the MSRP ~Manufactures Suggested Retail Price~ (LIST price, not talking about the discounted price), it should really have tempered glass in my opinion... they do use glass in the next models up it seems.
Even the hinges for the front door are plastic and IMO should be metal even with plastic sides.
Note this popper has a pretty large footprint so make sure you have a place to put it before you buy.. it's 11 x 11 x 17inches.
It has a pretty small popping pot (6" x 3.5"), you use 1 tablespoon oil and 1/3 cup corn per batch.
In my opinion, that's not much popcorn per cycle, it would take several batches to fill the tray in the bottom as shown in the promotional photo from Waring.
I measured the popped corn from each batch and for me, it's 4-5 cups, but can vary depending on how many kernels pop with the corn you use.
I uploaded a photo of the popping pan to show size and design.
Perhaps it's just ME,but I can eat 8 cups of popped corn without stopping 8-) Count on running many batches if there's more than one person eating corn.I really feel they could have put a cook unit in this about 50% larger without increasing the outer case size. (or the price)
The lid on the stainless steel pot that you open to pour in the oil and corn is pretty small, kind of tough to hold the metal flap open and dump in the oil and corn.
The smaller size also makes cleaning a bit of a pain since the 2 lid flaps, stiring paddle with drive shaft and all attachment points do not come off and require you to get your cleaning wand or hand in half of the pot at a time since the lids are split into 2 and each is less than half the diameter of the pot. instructions suggest you pour some water in and run it to "steam" clean, but I'd still want to wipe it out after.
Be sure and clean the inside of the top, it really gets a lot of oil spatter up there.
Again just to help you picture it...Even on the kitchen counter I have to bend down to see what I'm doing in there (I'm 6ft).
One additional tip... pull the plastic tray out a couple of inches before you dump the corn from the pot... will save picking it up off the floor.
Now the biggest problem I have with it... where do I keep it when not in use? Would love to let it set out as it looks okay and would be easier to use when the mood strikes, but don't have that kind of counter space.
UPDATE Nov 2010;
Two years later, I wanted everyone to know this is still working just fine and nothing has broken, even the light inside still has the same bulb... has popped many a bowl of corn at this point.
I do note the clear plastic sides and door are showing some wash and dry scratches(dull)from being cleaned of oil spatter after each use.
Be sure to read the comments attached for more details of using this popper.

We just trialed the counter top hot air popcorn popper by Dolci. Very satisfied with its performance. In spite of old popcorn (back of the cupboard jar!) most of the corn popped. True, it sounds as though a freight train is speeding through your kitchen, however the high decibels proved worth it. Texture and taste of hot air popcorn is notoriously like hard styrofoam--this popcorn was tasty and light. Beware though--this popcorn popper draws a lot of current. If you are in an older home, you may find it tripping breakers. The 'keep warm' feature is great, especially useful because this popper pops a big batch and unless you have a houseful you will want to refill your bowl with nice, hot popcorn. A bit pricey, but after spending money repeatedly on poor quality poppers, we finally got what we paid for--a good solid machine. Would give it 5 stars, but will need to use it longer for it to 'earn' all five. So far, so good!
